  • Science Show

    Tue 27 Feb 2018

Our visitor Tim Harrison delivered his award winning science show on 'Gases in the air'. There were fire balls, bangs, and gasps of delight from the children and staff! The children were challenged to make predictions, revised scientific vocabulary and really consolidated their understanding of solids, liquids and gases. Please view more information and photos on our Super Science page...

  • Parents' Online Safety Awareness - Thursday 11th January 2.30pm.

    Thu 11 Jan 2018

DO YOU FEEL CONFIDENT WITH ONLINE SAFETY?

Raising Online Safety Awareness: The importance of knowing the dangers on the internet

    Date: Thursday 11th January

    Time: 2.30pm-3.15pm

Venue: St. Margaret’s CofE Junior School

You are warmly invited to an online safety awareness workshop for all parents at St. Margaret’s and Briar Hill Schools. The Federation of St. Margaret’s and Briar Hill Schools recognise the difficult challenges parents can face with keeping their children safe on the internet, even more so at this time of year after new devices have been given for Christmas. The session will provide practical advice for setting restrictions on devices, safety tips to help manage online safety issues and discussions surrounding suitable behaviour online. The main purpose of the workshop will be to learn about specific online concerns and dangers, which your son/daughter may face or be exposed to, and to find out how you can minimise the risks. We hope at the end of the session you will feel you have a greater understanding and knowledge of the dangers your son/daughter may face and know where to go for help and advice if you have concerns.

We believe that internet safety education is a crucial element of the curriculum and an essential part of young people’s development. This session is designed to help you become more aware of the safety messages that your children receive in school in order to reinforce them in your home environment. We really hope that you will be able to attend and look forward to seeing you there.

*Please note that the session will be unsuitable for toddlers due to the content being covered. There will be no crèche available. Briar Hill staff will keep your child in their class until 3.15pm so please let your child’s teacher know in advance if you will be attending.

  • School Closure - Tuesday 12th December

    Mon 11 Dec 2017
School closed 12/12/17 due to site safety. Due to temperatures dropping, conditions on site are beginning to worsen after clearing pathways earlier today. We appreciate that parents need to know as soon as possible so that they can make childcare and work arrangements. We have been assessing the site safety all day. Due to the continual fall in temperature, the areas that have already been cleared are beginning to become treacherous. Safety of pupils, parents and staff is paramount. School is due to reopen Wednesday pending further assessment tomorrow.

  • Christmas Charity Boxes

    Fri 10 Nov 2017

    Dear Parents & Carers

At Harvest time we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our families with their gifts for the local community Foodbank. As we approach Christmas, we are thinking again about children and families in need within our local area.

Starting from Monday 13th November, each year group will be filling a box of gifts. Each class will have the box in their classroom for a week. We would be most grateful if your son/daughter could bring in an item from the list below that we can then take to Mrs. Suffern to distribute within our community in time for Christmas. You will see that useful household items are as welcomed as food items:

    Suitable items:

    · Toiletries – shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving foam (but not razors), boxes of tissues, bubble bath, flannels, sponges

    · Washing up liquid, laundry washing tablets (boxes/packs of these are split and shared out)

    · Gloves, scarves, socks, handkerchiefs, hair accessories, hair brushes, combs

    · Small toys, packs of playing cards

    · Small sponge/Christmas puddings

    · Savoury snacks

    · Bags of sweets, chocolate bars, selection boxes
