Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

On average, about 20% of children need special help at some point in their schooling. This may be because of physical, learning or behavioural issues and may be long or short term. Needs are identified in several ways - from parents, outside agencies, teacher observations and diagnostic assessment.

Children with identified needs are included in a Special Needs Register and a Personal Learning Plan (PLP) will be drawn up and reviewed three times each year. Most of the support given is within the classroom, but small groups and individuals may be withdrawn for focused support when it is thought appropriate.

We run lots of support groups for our pupils and we place a high priority on supporting positive mental health and well being as well as academic support. The value of parental support and its effect on the learning and development of children is recognised and we involve parents at all stages.

We recognise that all children have a right to a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum and ensure they are assessed and helped.

We aim to:

• create a happy, educationally exciting and positive environment in which all pupils can develop to their full potential and become confident, independent individuals.
• identify, assess, record and regularly review pupils' special educational needs, encouraging parents/guardians to be involved in planning and supporting at all stages of their child's development.
